TEDx — On April 1 I spoke at TEDx PERTH. Although I prefer being behind the camera, I’ve done a little bit of speaking over the years. This however was a different experience. There was the pressure of the largest room I’ve spoken to (2500), of having no notes, of it being recorded and put on the internet, of wanting to do a good job amongst other world class speakers, all under the TED brand. But another part of the experience was being given a coach to work with. This anxiety we feel about speaking live. I really think it comes from not knowing how your words will be received. But with a coach, that fear of whether your speech will land is taken care of. Plus you can’t underestimate how important it is to have someone enthusiastic in your corner, laughing at your jokes, helping your refine parts, telling you “you’re killing it”. My talk — You can’t ask that! How a question can lead to deeper interaction — will be available to watch in approx 6 weeks.

PODCAST — I spoke to Andrew Horsfield on his podcast The Messy Middle about the interview process and other stuff. Includes many references to fetish (don’t know what I was on that day).

TEDX – I like the way these guys have described what I’m going to talk about – “So many of us are now using digital tools to communicate that you might have – at one point in time – wondered whether it is impacting our in-person communication. Kirk will help us rediscover the lost art of conversation in an age of isolation and social media bubbles. He will show how, through empathy and curiosity, we can all have better conversations.”
